Not Dead.

I haven't posted on this blog for almost 3 months. Mostly because nothing really interesting happened in that time period, and because I kept forgetting to update my blog. But just as the plants came out of winter dormancy, so has my blog. This week was a race against time, as there was an unexpected break in the rain Monday and Tuesday, and my family had to furiously plant a lot hyacinths, de-weed the flowerbed, and trim some trees. I also got some great pictures that my sister made:

Amaryllis blooming.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

This is my first post this year. I was kinda swamped, and didn't have any time to post for a while. It was about a week and a half ago that my Amaryllis started to show some signs of blooming, and now it's in full bloom! It's kinda tall and tipsy, but the flowers are amazing. After it blooms I have to let the leaves die back, remove it from the pot, let it dry out, and store it in a cool well ventilated place until spring when I can plant it in the back yard. I hope it will bloom next year. I also managed to make a cool looking Mr Chlorophyll icon to water mark my pictures.

Well my Birthday is almost here and I surfed the web looking for what I want. This little thing caught my eye. It's an electronic pot that tells you it's needs via a series of pictograms on an LCD display. It uses sensors to find the plant's moisture level,temperature and it even can be updated via a usb cable so it can take optimal care of your specific plant type. I so want this! The only problem is that it doesn't exist yet, and it'll probably cost $1000+ if it did exist. Maybe in 20 years they might get around to actually making one of these.

It finally happened! Snow started to fall around Sunday morning, and has created quite a few problems for me. Unfortunately, some of my "Winter resistant" cacti I planted outside weren't so fulfilling of their name. The victims were two succulents that grew pretty well in the summer and a potted succulent that I really didn't pay much attention to. They seem to be the only things "The White Death" has claimed of my plants. The good part is that I have received my winter school break and had enough time today to go and build a snowman. Isn't he cute? I didn't have the time to go look under the snow for a few things and substituted the nose and mouth with some old paint from the garage.

Well it has been almost a month since I updated my blog. There's not many plants to photograph in Mid-December. But fortunately for me , after an entire year of watering and a transplant, my Christmas cactus gave me a surprise! This Christmas cactus came from a piece of my mom's Christmas cactus that got ripped off in a Christmas tree decorating freak accident last year. It grew like a weed for the whole year, and even outgrew the small pot I planted it in, so I had to move it into the Hexagon bamboo porcelain pot. It's a little dusty because I was afraid that if I move it the extremely fragile flower will fall off. Well I hope my Amaryllis bulb will be as lucky.

Well, obviously I didn't foresee this happening. It appears that my hyacinths aren't getting enough sun and are growing pretty dwarf-like. It's probably because we haven't a had a sunny day since early October, and it doesn't have enough energy to grow bigger. At least it smells heavenly and it doesn't look too bad.

Grotto

I know this post doesn't have anything to do with plants but I wanted to share my trip to The Grotto Catholic Church last Saturday. This place had very nice scenery and large gist shops where you could buy necklaces, statues, and even coffee. They're obviously preparing for Christmas and are setting up Christmas lights.

I planted these Paperwhites around mid-October and they already reached full bloom. I wish they could have at least waited until Christmas. But they are pretty and they do fill the whole room with a pleasant fragrance, so I guess it's not a problem. As you can see it's kinda droopy, but that should go away I guess.

Last week I took a nice walk around the neighborhood and took some interesting pictures. I was lazy, and didn't have the time or energy to put them on here. Look at the size of that caterpillar!

Year without a Spring.

Well the grapes and meddlers are ripe and almost ready to be picked. Look how large and juicy they look, the only problem is that this year was a horrible year for the grapes because early frost and snow in May delayed the grapes and caused them to have a shorter growing season. And this year was also the first year where we jumped from winter straight into summer. It was freaky to have snow in May. My grandma said that she never saw something like that in her entire life.

My small cacti

In late February this year I bought a pack of cacti seeds from Wal-mart this year and decided to try to grow them. I ended up with a lot of little cacti. I decided to transplant the best looking ones in this plastic pot to grow separately from the not so goof looking ones. As you can see, they're still pretty small. I wish they'll grow faster.

About this time of year my families precious Quince tree ripens its plentiful bounty and unloads it on everything under to it, I remember some time ago I got beaned by one of those cannonballs. They're like apples except harder and more sour. My mom like to bake these in the oven until all the syrup leaks out, and then eat them with Whipped cream. It's more tasty than it looks.

I never expected that after only 3 weeks after buying these Paper whites from Wal-mart that they would be ready to bloom so soon. I put these in a pot to try to force them indoors so they can bloom during the "January Depression after Christmas" but they thought otherwise. Well at least I still have some hyacinths in a few pots, maybe some of those will bloom.

Well, I never expected to ever see something like this. Apparently, my corn was mutated by gamma radiation, and transformed into "The Corn". This corn is faster, stronger, smarter and has more fingers than regular corn. I wonder how much I can get for this off of E-bay?

To start off the day, I overslept by half an hour. No big deal, since I'm home schooled, but it kind of set the tone for today's events. Around noon I found out that my dog Korena, a medium sized German shepherd, last night chewed up my Honeysuckle tree, and split most of it off. That's not the strange part, it was in a 12" pot and surounded by a green double-layer wire fence. She apparently jumped on the fence and pushed it down like you would a sock when you take it off. Then she chewed it, and snapped it in half. I just got that plant this year at Wal-mart,it was just 3 inches tall, and I put a plastic bag on it to protect it from frost, and watered it everyday in summer. It grew about 3 feet and had the thickness of a pencil. Korena got the leash treatment, and I think she'll stay that way for at least a week. I wonder if Wal-mart sells already grown huneysuckle trees?

Well I decided that I will go the way of Mr Brown Thumb and dedicate my website to my plants. I have quite a large assortment of plants, even though I started to propagate and collect them mid last year. I'll post some pictures of my favorites if my sister lets me use her expensive camera.

Today, I have started my own blog. I don't quite know why I did this, or where this blog will end up. Maybe I was curious, and wanted to prove to myself that I can make a blog. Or maybe I was foolish in my actions and this blog will turn into a waste. Whatever the reason, what's done is done, and now I have my own blog to chat and share my interests and feelings, or let it die in the infinitesimal internet tubes.
